Snootels?

Hello cyber-paw pals,

Have you ever heard of “snootels”? When we were on vacation we heard that word several times. Apparently that is what people call the marks left behind when a dog's nose touches a window. We decided to share some snootel pictures with you before Dad cleans the car windows. We double dog dare you to share snootel pictures! Inquiring Collies want to know what you call snootels? Dad used to call them dog nose marks, but he has now been corrected.

Essex takes a snootel break.

Meanwhile at Angel Paws Dog Park, we welcome a puppy named Bear. So we have two Bears sometimes at the park. Bear is a young German Shepherd Rottweiler cross that was whelped on Cinco de Mayo. Bear really likes Deacon. Today was a good collie day as Lady One and Lady Two came visit us at the Park. It is sure good to see those two Collies. We barked about the Holmhaven Collie puppy coming to Key West.

Bear was born on 5 May.

Where there is Lady One, Lady Two is not far behind.

We wanted to share a wonderful evening sky as we leave Angel Paws.

Bye Angel Paws, until tomorrow.

Dog Days at Dog Park

It was a good week at Angel Paws. We ran, chased and had fun. A lot of the pack was around. Murphy was chasing the ball and Essex on fence patrol. Then of course Deacon, Roxy, Mongo and Tyler were chasing and wrestling. PJ would play sometimes and at other times bark at the soccer ball. It has been hot though, so we are all kind of mellow.

A tiny Sheltie named “Casey Ten” came back down to visit us. We barked about her on our 28 March post. She is a tiny Sheltie, maybe 15 lbs. She approached the park the same way again. She was acting all mean and barking coming up to the dog park. Then her Dad opened the fence to let her in. “Casey Ten” was like Dad, these dogs are huge. Suddenly, she was shy and quiet. We all sniffed. She calmed down after about seven minutes because she remembered most of us.

Gemi is A-Okay

Cyber-Paw pals, a super fast relay team of sparrows brought us this Greyhound Express Note from Minnesota. The note is from Gomer, Opie & Floyd.

"Gemi is doing well and getting plenty of loving attention from her hoomans. She went into surgery around 2:40 PM and at 7:00 PM started waking up from the surgery. She lost 14 abscessed teeth (all 12 incisors and her two upper canine teeth) and had more than 50% bone loss. Gemi has 19 teeth left. In about 30 days Gemi mouth will heal enough from the surgery that she will be able to eat crunchy treats and food. All things point to an outstanding success story."

You can read about the saga of helping Gemi and get current information on her status by clicking on the following two links: 1) Gemi links at DogsAyeView and 2) Gemi link at IMOM (go to page 4 to read the DogsAyeView on the scene vet report.) We are wondering about that total of 33 teeth. We know that sometimes those little birdies can be a bit flighty when passing information. The important thing is Gemi is okay and doing fine.

21 JULY News Flash

Three news flashes came Greyhound Express and we decided to share them.

First, Gemi's surgery has been moved up to Wednesday, 23 July. This is a good for Gemi's Mom as there is less time to fret and worry. Hoomans imagine everything going wrong and the longer they wait the more they worry. Dad has the grey hair to prove that theory.

Second, we received a picture of the Collie Puppy that chose to live with a friend of Dog Dad's. We just aren't sure which of the five in the picture chose Key West. The little guys just aren't barking yet. They were born on the 14th and this picture was taken on the 16th. We are really excited about a third Holmhaven Collie in Key West. At first we weren't sure they were Collie Puppies because their noses were so small, but Dad reassured us they are Collies.

One of these five two-day old Collie
Puppies is coming to Key West
Lastly, we would like to wish Reilly a belated Happy First Barkday and wish him a double dose of the Collie Blessing. Reilly's barkday was Saturday, 19 July. Opy just welcomed him to DWB on 17 July, so we weren't even aware of his barkday until we started sniffing around his site this morning. Reilly has already found our Shelty Paw-Pals Charlie and Josh & Jess. To borrow a quote from one of Dad's favorite books growing up "Pedo mellon a minno."

100th Post

Well, folks this is our 100th post and by the Great Dane it is a good news post.

Deacon had a grrreeeaattt barkday. Dog Dad baked us “Cheddar Collies” for this special day. They are cheddar cheese treats shaped like a Collies. Dad found a place that has cookie cutters in the shapes of various dog breeds. “Cheddar Collies” are pawsome. We spent plenty of time with Dad and at our favorite place, Angel Paws Dog Park.

Dog Dad went to Bear’s Dad wedding. He even got to give the bride away. Almost all the hoomans in attendance were regulars at Angel Paws . There was Mongo’s Mom, Roxy’s Dad and Baby hooman brother, PJ’s Mom & Dad. None of us dogs got go, not even Bear.

You remember on 3 July we asked if anypaw wanted to help Gemi? The funds are raised and Gemi is scheduled to for oral surgery on 6 August. It is amazing the kindness of friends and strangers alike. There are a lot of good hoomans out there cyber-paw pals. We will keep you posted on Gemi.

One last pawtastic thing for post number 100. A Holmhaven Puppy will be adopting a family whose father works with our Dog Dad. The Collie Puppy was whelped to Prince and Vixen on 14 July. There were five puppies in the litter, four boys and a girl. As we get more information, we will pass it on. We can’t wait to have another Holmhaven Collie down here in Key West.

Deacon's Second Barkday

Deacon the Barkday Dog

Dad scared me good cyber-paw pals. He set the alarm for just after midnight, kissed me on the nose and started singing Happy Barkday. He reminded me to post so our cyber-paw pals in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore could wish us Happy Barkday before they went to bed. It should be an exciting Barkday too. Dad has the ingredients to make our favorite home made dog treats, the one with sharp cheddar cheese. Aroooooo.

Yesterday we got hit with some good news. We were all sitting at the Dog Park when in comes Bear, his Dad and a strange woman. Next thing I know Bear is blubbering he is getting a Dog Mom. The wedding is going to be on my Barkday at 6 PM too . I’ll let Bear be the best Dog even though it is my Barkday. We all thought Bear was kidding, but after we looked at his face, we knew he was serious.

Bear shares happy news.

Well, Dad is getting back to bed. My Barkday, a wedding and it is Saturday. I love Saturdays because I get to spend the day with the two I love the most - Dog Dad and Auntie Essex.

Can You Help Gemi?

" Gemi"
Two Shelties - Gemi and Teddy at the beach.
Our cyber-paw pals Opie and Gomer at DogsAyeView wrote about Gemi needing oral surgery. We like those two a lot and decided to help. When we noticed that Gemi was a Sheltie we decided a post was necessary too. Gemi is a 3 1/2 year old Sheltie and is a svelte 12.5 lbs.

You can read all about Gemi and how you can help her at the following two posts by DogsAyeView - "More Information about Gemi" and and "Can You Help Us Help Randi?".
We decide to help and you might too. Gomer and Opie give you all the information you need in their posts. In our minds they are doing the work of the Great Dane.

Dog Speed,

Essex & Deacon
UPDATE: At 3:02 PM on 5 JULY, IMOM listed Gemi as fully funded. That funding is at the low end estimate. Hopefully, that will cover it. The Key West Collies will keep an eye on this breaking story and provide updates as we get them.

After all "Inquiring Collies want to know."
