Heat, Cars & Dogs

We have been busy helping Dad around the house and snoozing. Things have been slow and the days hot and humid. We go late to the dog park and don't stay out long during the day. We've met some new friends at Angel Paws. We will have to wait and see if they become regulars.

It has been warm at Angel Paws
A 5-month old Welsh Terrier puppy.
Deacon pretending to be a towel rack.
We noted the sad news from Arnold, Missouri today. A dog handler left eight dogs in a van over night. Click here if you want to read the tragic story about the seven show dogs that crossed the rainbow bridge. We for one are not quick to crucify somebody over a lapse in judgement. So our hearts go out to the dogs, the dog owners and the handler and the dogs. Dad has done stupid things, especially when tired. We have done silly things too, like the time Essex knocked herself out at the city dog park. We hope people get a little wiser from reading this sad article.

Dog Dad told us this is why he hates traveling during the summer. He feels guilty having to gas up the car or go inside the rest stop to relieve himself, while we are stuck in the truck during long drives. He prefers long distance traveling during the fall or spring, when it is cooler.

Stay safe, stay cool and give your hoomans a good face lick. That makes a lot of things all better.

Dog Speed,

Essex & Deacon

We can't bear to read it tonight, but will later tomorrow just to get in touch with those doggie souls across the Bridge.

Arnold is not too far from the St. Louis neighborhoods where Dogdad's family goes.

When we traveled to St. Louis with Mom and Dogdad, we did wonder -- after Mom told us about those signs in the rest rooms that say NO DOGS ALLOWED -- what one person does when traveling alone. I guess guys can manage somehow -- but the ladies??

It was 100 here yesterday. We didn't stay out long either.

Stay safe!! Stay cool!!

Hey guys! We have been lurking quietly lately ... this is a very very sad story. H-Mom has put her ignition key and her remote entry fob on different key rings so she can leave the car on with the a/c blasting if she has to run in quick ANYWHERE ... with the emergency brake on & we have tinted windows ... best to leave the pooch at home in the air conditioning than even take her with, even though she is H-mom's best friend and companion.

my brother Meelo (tri-color) knocks himself silly on trees alot - he always looks behind him... then turns around when its too late.

I hadn't heard that story. Don't want to read it. SO SAD

What a tragic story. But a good reminder for all of us. Over here in M'sia, it's pretty much hot all year round - in the 80's. My humans only take me in the car for quick errands in the early morning or late evenings when it's cooler. And she never leaves me unsupervised in the car for more than 5 minutes.

Hope you get a cool breeze to cool you down. With your coats, it must be sooo hot.

What sad news :( Poor dogs. The handler must feel terrible. Thanks for posting the link, hopefully it'll be a good reminder to everyone to not keep their dogs in hot cars for long periods of time.

We hear you on the heat....it is 97 today and feels like 108 with the humidity. It is just awful!!! Mom is finding the humidity very difficult and we haven't been ANYWHERE!!! We are not so nice about the handler of the dog....he/she is a doggie murderer on the grounds of stupidity. Mom got really angry at a lady at the post office the other for driving with her dog sitting on the dashboard she doesn't like it when people don't care of their furbubbies PROPERLY

Hi guys,

Can't read the story about the dogs in the van...can only imagine how terrible it was for them.

I never never ever ever leave Katie alone in the car ever, no matter what the temp. She just doesn't go with me very far, only to doggie school or to the park. And then I never give in to any thought about dropping in at a grocery store on the way home.

I DID read the essay on running into the post! That was too funny! Glad everyone healed up from that one!

Have a cool soak in the tub, or at least make sure the towel is wet if you're going to impersonate a towel rack again!
