Kitchen Cabinets

Deacon "nose" kitchens

Inquiring collies want to tell you this week the work was done on the kitchen. Thursday the guys came by and ripped out our cabinets down. The kitchen looked really barren.

Old cabinets

Torn up kitchen

Friday and Saturday, the cabinets were installed. It would have been late Friday but the one piece was off a paw or so. Saturday morning the last cabinet was installed, finishing work was done, knobs, handles were installed on the doors and drawers.

New cabinets

Dad will be out getting a new dishwasher and stove. Looking forward to the first cheddar collies coming out of the new stove. We wonder if they'll taste just as good? Labor day weekend the granite top will be put on the cabinets, next the tile will be selected for the floor and wall. You have to admit it looks a lot better. After that comes paint, tiles and base boards through out the rest of the house. We will be glad when it is all over.

Guard Chair & Digging

Our house was busy this week -- digging, moving, cleaning, buying. We want to first tell you that Essex's old chair started to fall apart. She looked at Dad with big brown Collie eyes. That was enough to convince him to buy a new chair. A little sweet barking was enough to let him know that she wanted her favorite seat cushion. Essex is back in the saddle, keeping watch what is happening outside sitting on her favorite perch.

The fixer upper guys were jack hammering and digging in the computer room. We have new plumbing underneath the house and the holes are cemented over. You can see the bad shape the pipes were in. The last several days it was clean out the kitchen cabinets because we are getting new ones put in Friday. Starting tomorrow after work they are removing the old one. We’ll do a before and after picture in a couple days.

Bear & Jack

Jack & Bear e-barked us the past week. They used to play with us at Angel Paws, but moved away several months ago.

First, there both Jack & Bear are loving life. They visited a park and went swimming in a big lake (water, blech). They live in a house with a big yard in a state called Virginee. They love having a in their yard. Best news is that their Dag Pawrents are thinking of getting a German Shepherd sister. If that sister is anything like Essex, when she gets big she will rule with an iron paw.

Goodbye Gomer

Our cyber-paw pal, Gomer has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Who is Gomer, you ask? When we joined DWB, Dogs’ Aye View with Opie & Gomer was a pawsome blog. They helped other animals. Since both our parents grew up in Ohio, they quickly became friends. We think this because people from Ohio are called Buckeyes and that is a nut.

Gomer, being the funny dog

Gomer’s future Dog Mom met him at a dumpster in Guadalupe, Arizona in late April 200. Gomer and his sister were in that dumpster; as well as his Beagle mom and a brother that had already crossed the Rainbow Bridge. The two puppies went to “Friends for Life Animal Sanctuary” next. Sister hung on for a couple more days before crossing over. Gomer was a scrapper, though weighing only two pounds at two weeks age and being in rough shape, he survived. He went to a foster home for awhile. It took until 1 September 2000 for his hooman Mom to figure out that she was Gomer’s person.

In July 2001 Gomer convinced Dog Mom that Opie was to be part of the pack on a return visit to the Sanctuary. The three amigos left the heat and sand of Arizona for the cold and snow of Minnesota at a later date. On 29 June 2006 Gomer introduced “Dogs Aye View” to the world. On 13 November 2006 they became DWB pack member 222.

Gomer introduces "Dogs' Aye View" to Cyber-Paw Space

We found Dogs’ Aye View on 26 June 2007. The first post read was a fund raiser for less fortunate animals, we supported. On 11 November 2007 they gave us our first award. On 2 July 2008 Dogs’ Aye View started a drive for Gemi’s mouth surgery. Dogs’ Aye helped furry friends.

Gemi

Their Dog Mom later had to chose a less expensive den and worked two jobs. The jobs interfered with blogging, so puter time was infrequent. Until todays post, their last post was on 4 November 2008. Since both our pawrents are nuts; they stayed in contact. Dad told us about Gomer’s four mouth surgeries over the past eight months. Gomer barked about others on the blog. The root for the tooth problems was probably the time in the dumpster.

Gomer after mouth surgery

This morning around 5 AM, Dad opened the e-barks to find one sent at 3:23 AM about Gomer. His Mom came home from work at 2 PM to find him severely jaundiced and rushed him the hospital. Looking into his eyes and using the time spent helping the local vet; she made the painful decision to let him go. At 7:15 PM on 17 August 2009, at 9 ½ years old, just short of his ninth Gotcha Day Gomer crossed the Rainbow Bridge from a quick bout of liver disease. Just recently, a post was made on their blog .

Opie

If you can, take some time

leave Opie, Floyd and their Dog Mom a note at Dogs' Aye View. While they haven’t posted much this past year, much good has been done by them. We appreciate all they have done and are proud of them as part of the DWB family. We know his Dog Mom, Opie and even Floyd the cat will miss Gomer.

Noisy Weekend

Essex sitting pretty
It was an eventful weekend. There was a jackhammer making noise Saturday and then Sunday morning. Dad decided to get the plumbing worked on the house. If the floors are going to get tiled, then the old pipes need to be replaced. As Dog Dad says, "Do it right." Funny thing is the jackhammer doesn't bother Essex, but it drives Deacon nuts.

Dad we didn't dig these holes, we swear
It rained Saturday, so we went for a walk instead of Angel Paws. Essex met her old friend Jackie a 13 year old mixed breed. He is about Deacon's size. Despite the fact that it is about three years since they met each other, tails swished. Essex definitely remembered. Then Saturday we saw Tropical Storm Ana and then Tropical Storm Bill emerge. So the weather channel played a prominent role in our lives. Right now we are keeping a eye on both of them.

Sunday we went to Angel Paws after the workers left. Sasha was there so Deacon played a little. We were glad to be at the Angel Paws. The sky looks pawsome.

Lazy Summer Day

Essex taking it easy

We have had company come several times during the week. Dad's friend Kay and her Grand Kids came over to visit and use the pool. It is nice to see people around. Both of us love Kay, especially Essex. Kay is the dog mom of our Guardian Dog Angel, Foxy. So when she comes over, Dad sees a Essex's tail wag. That always makes Dog Dad smile. We think Essex was remembering Foxy in the picture above.

Foxy, our Guardian Dog Angel
The weather has been hot and humid. We don't feel like going out much during the day. We are once again watching the tropics. We hate this time of year, herricane season.

Our friend PJ is now in California with his hooman family. They don't have a house yet, but being with your pack is the most important thing.

5 August 2009

No dog park today because it rained hard. Dad had to do some things on the screened in porch, we decides to go out into the rain. The rain stopped just in time for our walk though. Being out in the rain is fun, but being towelled off is the best fun of all.

Two wet Collies

Our Pal PJ left Key West on Saturday, 1 August. He is moving to Californie. We will deeply miss him and his family. PJ is going to be living near San Francisco. On Monday PJ ebarked that the trip was going well and to tell all his pals at Angel Paws Howl-Hi.

Our Pal PJ

To answer some questions asked by cyber paw pals.

1 - Grand Paw is doing okay. He has good days and bad days. How many days he has left on this good earth, only the man upstairs knows. Dog Dad talks to him on the phone, but that can be drawn out and painful. We do love him so, as he is a very good man.

2 - Amy asked about the lassie cookie cutters. If anyone is interested in things like that please ebark us. Our address can be found on the right hand side of the blog, or you can press the ebark button. We don't like advertising for other people, but don't mind answering questions via email about things like the cookie cutters. We are curious what your smooth collie looked like and would love to see a picture.

A Hush Over DWB

There is a hush over Dogs With Blogs land. Charlie, DWB 001, has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Charlie lived in Australia, the land where today is tomorrow. The earliest blog we noted by him was dated April 2006 and that was his second blog ! It was during April 2006 we see the earliest entries in the Bone Zone. Something good was started that day and Charlie and Opy were responsible for it.

Charlie's First Photo

There are 1331 currently on the Dog With Blogs list. We bet Charlie, Opy, Greg & Brooke never imagined it being that big. It was probably Charlie or Opy that welcomed you to DWB. Charlie will be missed by all. We think it is raining outside here in Key West, because the Angels are crying for all the sad hoomans and pupsters.

Run free Charlie and welcome us when we cross the bridge.

With Much Thanks and Heavy Hearts,

Dog Speed,

Essex & Deacon
