Good Karma

Today we want to introduce you to Sherman's newest buddy Karma.  The two of them run, wrestle and play together.  If Ruger comes then it is a total puppy mayhem.  The hoomans will watch, smile and chuckle while the pups play.  If they get to close to Essex or interfere with fence patrol, she is quick to teach them to mind their manners.  It is good to that Sherman has found new friends to play with since Leo left.

Earlier in the week, there was an American Kestrel looking over the park.  Dad wishes he had a better camera, but the picture came out pretty good.  So far we have seen Ospreys, a Bald Eagle, an American Kestrel, Pelicans, and White Ibis to name just a some of the birds.

Dad Helps Birdie

Dad helped us out today in getting a report out to the Great Dane.  You may remember our second post, where Essex talked about the time she was caught relaying a report for a little birdie when she was a young pup.  Well today we had relayed a report and the silly bird couldn’t figure how to get back out of the enclosed porch in the back.  It kept flying into the window screens.

Dad came home and saw the little birdie when he let us out.   He tried to coax the bird to the open door with no luck.  Dad had almost given up, when he decided to nail one of our blankets to the outside screened window nearest the door.  Well, he did that and the silly bird flew finally saw the light and flew out the door.  We are glad that our Dog Dad is "Collie Smart."

Dad is feeling lots better and appreciated every paw thinking of him.  The power of the paw, orange juice, chicken noodle soup and rest helped him a lot.  He went to work the last two days and we got to go to Angel Paws Dog Park.   Both of us have been enjoying our time in the park.

A Sick Dog Dad

Well folks, we got to take care of Dad today.  He was feeling sick and stayed home.  Guess the sniffles going around at work finally caught up to him. 

While we were happy to have him home all day, we did miss going to the dog park.  Though he did manage to take us on our walks. 

Dog Dad is feeling better now though.  Amazing what rest, NyQuil, orange juice, chicken noodle soup and the power of collie paws can do.

Ruger A New Pal

Sherman has a new chum at Angel Paws Dog Park, Ruger.  Ruger is a nine month old chocolate Labrador Retriever.  He is smaller than Sherman and the two get along pawsomely.  Dog Dad and the other hoomans love to watch the two play.  There is a lot of chasing, wrestling, barking and just plain silliness.

Their interaction brings back memories of our good chum Leo.  We wish Leo was still here, but having Ruger around gives Sherman someone to romp with.  The one thing constant about Angel Paws is there seems to dogs leaving and dogs coming.

Good News, Bad News

We received some good news.  A Holmhaven Collie named Vixen is living at our Deacon's (our angel collie) first home in St. Augustine.  You might remember when Deacon, Dog Dad and I visited them when the pack evacuated to Orlando because of a Herricane back in 2008.   Vixen is nine years old and just a little older than Essex.  Sherman wants to go see where his late uncle used to roam and I would like to visit them again too.  So we are now bothering Dog Dad to go visit.

The sad news is that the Collies of the Meadows posted that Dixie is still missing.  Dixie has been missing since 2 December.  She was last seen off highway 121 outside Tison, near Glennville, GA.  She was wearing a pink collar with a heart tag with her name, address and phone number on it.  She is four year years old and has been spayed.  Dixie's mom's phone number is (912) 334-9375.  There is a reward for her safe return.  Since Dixie disappeared by a highway someone might have picked her up.  She is microchipped. If you have relatives or friends in Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Carolinas or Tennessee please let them know.  We all would love to have her found, but nobody more than a little 10 year old girl who misses her terribly.  More information and pictures of Dixie can be found at http://glendalefarmcollies.com/gfc_113.htm.  If the first number does not answer try Glendale Farm Collies at 478-454-5427.

As for Sherman and I, the below pictures say it all.  We are pretty calm and happy that football season is over.  Dog Dad won't be watching those silly football games for several months.

Pet Blogger Challange

We noticed this on "All Things Collie" and have been meaning to take the challenge for some time.    Well, this is now some time.

1. When did you begin your blog?
June 2007

2. What was your original purpose for starting a blog?
The blog started at the encouragement of our friend Tosca, who has stopped blogging several years ago.  We wanted to keep a record of our lives and times and to write about things that interested us.  We have found the exchanging of information about pet products, vet visits and other things to be very useful.

3. Is your current purpose the same? If not, what’s different?
Purpose has changed very little.  We still write about the dog park, vet visits and the people we have met blogging or at the dog park.  We have expanded to include trips in the WABAC machine to talk about hysterical, er historical events that interest us.

4. How often do you post?
That has varied a lot.  Ideally we would like to post at least once a week.

5. Do you blog on a schedule or as the spirit moves you?
We post when the spirit moves us.
If you don’t publish on a schedule, why? How do you think your decision affects your audience? How do you know when a topic is “post-worthy?”
We post more for ourselves than our audience.  We are amazed that people enjoy what we write.  We try to post on the anniversary of historic events and love to travel in the WABAC machine.  Outside of that, we write about the dog park, or to log the things that have happened to us.   Our blog is not fur everyone, and Dog Dad is definitely eccentric.  Us Collies love him anyway.

6. How much time do you spend writing your blog per week?
That varies a lot.
How much time visiting other blogs?
We spend probably 10 - 12 hours a week reading our cyber-paw  friends blogs.

7. How do you measure the success of a post and of your blog in general (comments, shares, traffic)?
The success is when we like what we wrote after several months.  Dad will visit and think about when we first came to live with him, what happened in his life.  Success is also measure in the number of chums we have found along the way.
Do you look strictly at the numbers, or do you have a way of assessing the quality of those interactions?
We assess success by pawsons telling us they enjoyed our post or they remember where they were at the time. 

8. If you could ask the pet blogging community for help with one issue you’re having with your blog, what would it be?
How to convince blogger to stop changing how things work?  For example the new improved format actually makes posting pictures harder.

9. What goals do you have for your blog in 2013?
To keep blogging and chatting with our pals.
