July 2021 - Two Bridge Crossings

We found out a little over a week ago about some Rainbow Bridge Crossings.

On 10 July, Mick crossed the Rainbow Bridge up in Michigan.  Mick was the smallest pup born at the Meadows, but grew up to become the biggest one ever.  Mick weighed in at an outstanding 115 lbs, which is bigger than any of the Key West Collies.  Mick had a big heart to match. There are a lot of stories and memories of Mick and his pack at https://colliesofthemeadow.wordpress.com/.  The collies used to post all the time, but their posts have become more infrequent.  We miss their stories of that large pack.

The Dad's sister in Lost Wages pup, Luna, crossed Rainbow Bridge on 11 July.  Luna's pawrents miss her a lot.  Pups tend to become part of the fabric of a family's life.  \

Normandy's First Bark-Aversary

When Dad woke up this morning he gave me a big hug and wished me a Happy Bark-Aversary before our walk.  Then an extra treat before he left for work.  We just got back from Angel Paws.  There were about seven other pups there, so I had a fun time.

I Can't Fit Under The Bed Anymore
It is hard to believe that I've spent one year with Auntie Gemini and Dog Dad.  It feels like furever, but then again like I just left Holmhaven.  We have had a lot of fun.  I still like to lick the bottoms of Dad's feet.  I can't fit under the bed any more though.  I love my pack.  Dad and Gem definitely love me too.  I hope everyone else had a grrrrreat Day.

Elsa Has Passed

Some wind and some rain is what we remember about Tropical Storm Elsa.  There was a huge sigh of relief from our entire pack.  We figured we would get a lot more rain, Elsa didn't have near the rain that Sally had last year and the wind wasn't to bad either.

Resting During Elsa
There was some palm fronds to pick up and other things to pick up in the yard.  The power went out twice, once about 2 AM than another time around 9 AM.  The first was for maybe a half hour, the second for about an hour and a half.  Gemini did jumped into bed with Dad around 6 AM.  Dad just put his arm around her.  She decided to jump out of the bed after about a half hour.

We hope Elsa is kind to everyone else.

Watching Elsa

We are watching Elsa with Dad. We’ve been barking with Jake the Angel Weather dog. He said it looks like bad weather late Sunday and Monday. Norm barked this is storm number three, so he’ll be strong. Besides he has auntie Gem and Dog Dad by his side. Dad has very little to do in order to tighten the house up. Put some trash cans up and close two hurricane shutters up. That will get done Sunday.

All has been going well at Angel Paws. Norm plays with the other pups, while Gem barks at everypaw playing. We’ll be at Angel Paws this evening and will try to be there Sunday too.

Gemini Turns Six

I woke up this morning with Dad and Norm singing happy barkday to me.  I've gotten used to Dad's quirks and was happy Norm joined in.  Dad kissed me on the nose then we were off for a walk.  During the walk a light rain got all us wet.  BOL.  When we got back there were extra collie treats.

Gemini The Barkday Girl

The rest of the day there were threats of rain, but nothing really came down.  We went to Angel Paws and when we got back, Dad gave us a frosty paw to eat.  Yum.  Earlier this week we watched a cloud that looked like a dog cross the sky.  We both smiled at Dad and enjoyed the park.

The big news by us has the building collapse that happened near Miami.  Our prayers go out those involved in the tragic event.

Happy Pawther's Day - 2021

We greeted Dad early this morning.  Had to get him up and about fur pawthers Day.  We had him open our present that his sister Marge bought fur us.  Dad gave us both a big hug and called his sister to thank her.  We had to make sure our names were on it, so hoomans would know he was our Dad!!

Later we went to Angel Paws and had a good time.  Things have been pretty quiet around here.

10 Years Since Deacon Crossed

Dad is wistful today.  Ten years ago today Great Uncle Deacon crossed the rainbow bridge at far to young an age.  Deacon was a friendly outgoing pup.  Dad loved to watch Deacon and Essex play, just like he loved watching the two of us.We listened to Dog Dad ramble on about the big guy.  After Dad was done talking we got a treat.

We did our best to keep Dad from dwelling on ten years ago.  He smiled at us as we went to Angel Paws.  Before we got out of the car when we got back home, Dad kissed us both on the nose.  Silly Hooman.

Angel Paws and Hoppy

Hope everypaw is doing well in cyber-paw land. We are bit excited because they are putting in a new structure at Angel Paws. Something that will give us some cover from the rain. They brought in the structure on Monday and fenced off that area of Angel Paws. On Tuesday they did some more work. Today the structure was up but Dad furgot to take a pawtograph. Sigh. We'll have Dad post pawtographs of the structure soon.

An new friend has been staying on the roof of our house. Dad noticed a pigeon about three weeks ago on our roof. Last Friday we noticed him hopping around the roof. We pointed out to Dad, he only had one leg and that his name was Hoppy. Hoppy is mostly all by himself on our roof, while the other pigeons are hanging on wires or tree branches. We like having Hoppy around. He has given us a few messages from the Great Dane.  Great Great Auntie Essex received messages from the Great Dave from birds.

Normandy's First Barkday

Dear Cyber Paw Pals,

My hooman is nutty.  When he woke up, he sang "Happy Barkday" to me.  Auntie Gem told me that Dad does that on our barkday.  We went out for our morning walk.  Next Dad got ready for work.  He gave us our heartworm pill, an extra treat  and then a small piece of cheese before leaving.

When he got back we got a treat and another piece of cheese.  Then some petting and hugging.  We later went out to Angel Paws Dog Park.  We didn't see any of our friends today.  Gemini and I are glad I am over kennel cough and are going to the park again.

My First Pawtograph With My Mom (Shannon)

Dad got out my first pawtograph and told me how much I had grown.  I smiled and gave Auntie Gem a playful tug.  I am looking forward to spending many years with my pack.

Kennel Cough Kaput

Well cyber paw pals Normandy is all better.  He is no longer honking like a Canadian Goose.  The worse part about all of this is that we haven't been to Angel Paws for almost two weeks.  Dad told us we have some more time before we can go.  Guess we just have to enjoy an evening walk.  Sigh.

We found out that our pal, Loki, crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 16 April.  Sherman  had meet Loki, and told me he was an awesome pup.  Loki was 8 years old, just like Sherman.  He was a pawtastic pup and will be missed by his hooman.

Kennel Cough

Norm started coughing Tuesday after coming back from Angel Paws.  Dad had a hard time sleeping because he would start coughing every hour to hour and a half.  So Dad took vacation and set up a veterinarian appointment.  First he tried our regular doctor, the only due surgeries on Wednesday.  Then he tried the vet on Big Coppit.  They weren't taking new patients but Dad could come to the emergency clinic when it opened at 5:30 PM.  Dad called the veterinarian at Marathon and they could see Norm at 2:30 PM.  We made the drive up.  I was nervous when we got there.  Probably memories of Sherman crossing the Rainbow Bridge.  Dad did the best to comfort us.  Sitting on the floor, talking to us.

Marathon Veterinary Hospital
When the Doc came into to see us, Norm laid down and didn't want the Doc to use her stethoscope.  Dad helped get Norm up.  After the Doc left he got up.  Dad kept telling him that he was a Silly Boy.  A many many moons ago before Deacon came to live with Essex, Essex caught kennel cough when Dad went to Ohio.  Norm's coughing reminded Dad of that time long ago.  He was right.

Dad both got medicine.  Dad figuring one could pass it to the other.  Norm got pills to settle his cough too.  Dad had a restful night sleep last night.  He found out today, that Kennel Cough is making its rounds in Key West.  He found out that five other Key West dogs have Kennel Cough.  Our good pals Kai, Max and Chachi were among them.  From what Dad told us, it will be at least two weeks before we can visit our beloved Angel Paws.

Giving Dad A Scare Friday

We gave dad a good scare Friday.  He accidently left the gate open and we went exploring.  Dad figured that out after he took a shower.  Dad went down the various streets calling our name and whistling the "Lassie" tune to no avail.  He kept this up for over an hour.  He asked people walking down the street, riding bicycles and the garbage men (it was trash day) with no luck.

He said a prayer to God and the Great Dane fur our safe return.  He turns the corner and see the two of us wondering back home at the side of the road.  He gets the two of us and put us in the back of the collie mobile.  Then he gave us a big hug.  Dad wasn't angry, he was really glad to see us.

He gave us our treats, told us we were getting a good brushing when he got back and went off towork.  When he got back, Normandy got a good brushing.  Then we went to Angel Paws.  Gemini a brushing on Saturday.  Below you can see all the seeds of the weed in our fur.  We would like to have another adventure, but don't think Dad will give us the chance.

Miles Crosses The Rainbow Bridge

One of our good pals crossed the rainbow bridge last night.  dad got a frantic call from his hooman saying Miles was having problems breathing and had thrown up.  Dad gave him the phone number to the vet in Marathon and his pal give Miles' Dad a 24 hour vet number at Big Coppit Key.  His human traveled quickly, but Miles crossed the bridge during the ride up.  We were sad to hear the news of his crossing.  We are sure that Essex, Deacon and Sherman greeted him as he crossed the bridge.

Miles at Our House - 2014

Miles & Uncle Sherman - 2014
Miles was a pawsome pup that stayed with us several times when his hoomans couldn't take him on a trip.  Better to stay with pals, than at a kennel.  He stayed at the our house so he knew Essex, Sherman and myself from those stays.  Miles met Deacon and Normandy if he walked by Angel Paws with one of his hoomans.
Gemini & Miles - 2018
We liked him a lot.  When Miles visited our home, he would go to Angel Paws.  At our house he would jump up on the window ledge to look outside.  He played more with Essex and Sherman when he was a pup, than he did with me.

We know his hoomans will miss him badly.  I was hoping that he could tell Normandy tales about Essex and Sherman when he could stay with us.  Unfortunately, the trip his hoomans planned was cancelled by COVID.

28 February 2020

We've been meaning to post, but kept on finding other stuff to do like going to Angel Paws.

We both love Angel Paws.  Today we started whining and barking at Dad.  It was a bit early, but we wanted to make sure he got his behind in gear.  The dog park seems to be less busy during the weekends.  Norm loves playing with the other pups. Norm is confident and out going.

Well we have plenty of things to help Dad with.

800th Post

Bowser, it is hard to believe that we made it to 800 posts.  We are glad to announce on this special post, that our beloved Angel Paws has reopened.  Once more the collie paws touch those howled grounds.  We were happy to see the park.  Yesterday, it was only us and Ruby.  Today, Norm's favorite pal, Luna, was there.  So lots of chasing and playing.  Dad didn't spend as much time as usual because the football games were on.  Below are some pawtographs of us and some of the things that are in the park.

The entrance to the park has gravel instead of dirt.  So it looks a lot nicer.

Probably the most important thing they added to the park is a place fur P-Mail.

Below are some of the agility set.  Dad will have to bring some treats to see if we will do any of them.
